The Árnesinga Folk Museum is considered by many Icelandic people to be one of their cultural milestones. Located within a structure simply called “The House”, which was built in 1795 and is one of Iceland’s oldest surviving buildings, this indoor attraction presents to its guests an atmosphere of rich history and culture from the moment they step inside.

The main exhibits in the museum display a chronological look at the roles which The House has played in the country’s history. Guests can marvel at various visual artworks such as very old photographs, paintings, and drawings, as well as antique furnishings, hardware, toys, and equipment used by people who have resided in the said building. These include items from the Lefolii business, items owned and used by famous Icelandic shop owner Guđlaugur Pálsson, and an antique piano which has been in The House for almost a century. Apart from these features, several aspects of Iceland’s social history is also shown through pieces of artwork done by famous people who at one time have lived in or visited The House. And to enhance the learning experience, visitors are also given the chance to read old books and publications located in certain rooms in the museum.

With regards to the best time to visit the said cultural attraction, the Árnesinga Folk Museum is open daily during June, July, and August, and on weekends only during April, May, September and October.
