The moment you enter Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland, you are greeted by the magnificent sight of the Hallgrimskirkja. The Hallgrimskirkja, which literally means the Church of Hallgrimur, is a well know Church in Reykjavik. The Hallgrimskirkja is strikingly situated on the top of Skolavorustigur, which makes it visible from distances that are more than 20 Kms. Quite interestingly, it is one of the major attractions for the travelers beating their path to the city.

At 74.5 meters, the Hallgrimskirkja is the tallest Church and the fourth tallest building in the whole of Iceland. Its magnificence is not only reflected by its height but it is the beauty of its architecture that makes it stand out. Its architecture resembles and is inspired by the volcanic basalt rock formations and seems to be well executed by the former state architect Gudjon Samuelson. It took more than 40 years to the Hallgrimskirkja to take its present shape and was finally opened in the year 1986.

The Church tower is open for visitors and provides an excellent panoramic view of entire Reykjavik. If you take part in the service you can experience the mesmerizing music from its organ which is also the largest in entire Iceland.
